Hi, I'm Sophie- mama, wife, teacher, homebody, and doula. I live in a tiny, sometimes not very glamorous 130 year old house in St. Paul with my incredible husband and two boys. Education is a passion of mine and I work part time as an elementary ESL teacher. On my days at home, I love to cook and bake and am especially fond of my sourdough starter, Bertha. I love to read and there is nothing I love more than to curl up with a hot cup of coffee and a good thriller novel (I read 65 last year!) In the bits of free time I have, I enjoy running, spending time outdoors, pilates, spending time with my family, antiquing, and planning house projects.
Becoming a doula was a natural progression for me that started with the birth of my son in 2021. When I found out I was pregnant, I was so excited for this new chapter of taking care of my body and was ready to dive in head first to all of the things I could possibly learn about pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. During my pregnancy, I was labeled as "high risk" because I've been living with Type 1 Diabetes since I was 10. I took responsibility and ownership of my journey and did all the learning I possibly could in those 9 months leading up to birth. Part of that preparation was hiring a doula for extra support in my pregnancy and she was an integral part in my beautiful baby boy's birth. After my son was born, I could not stop talking abut birth and all the things I'd learned that I believe hugely affected my experience. I found that many of my friends were turning to me for advice or to process their births and I was invited to attend close friends' births as their doula. Those experiences were the final push (ha) to pursue birth work professionally and supporting families as a doula.

In April of 2025, we welcomed our second son in the comfort of our home. After years of desiring, researching and chatting with the midwives in the community, we finally connected with a midwife who was willing to support a type 1 home birth (something most are unwilling or unable to do). This experience was vastly different in so many ways and I am forever grateful I was able to experience the connection and support in community based birth care. Even though they were both unique and positive in their own ways, my birth experiences provided me with insight into the spectrum of choices in care that are available to birthing families in our community.
I have experience supporting all kinds of births including, hospital births, birth center births, home births, gestational diabetes, those with high risk factors, inductions, and cesareans.
